Melbourne racing driver Ross Buckingham will be driving a Hyundai Sonata in the WPS 12 Hour Race which takes place as part of the Bathurst International Motor Festival on 8^th to 10^th February 2008. Ross returned to Australia 3 years ago after many years in England and now lives in Montrose in Melbourne’s outer East. In Europe he competed in several racing categories including British GT. Ross is no stranger to endurance racing or Bathurst having raced in the Bathurst 24 Hour Race in 2002 as well as several Nurburgring 24 Hour Races.

The car is being prepared and run by Kangan Batman TAFE . Kangan Batman TAFE College runs a dedicated motorsport apprentice course at its Coburg North campus. Hyundai Australia, who have donated the car to the TAFE college, are sponsoring the team in conjunction with Hyundai Expert Services and Hankook Performance Tyres. MoTeC Pty Ltd and Suspension Technology Australia are major technical partners to the project.

“This is certainly different to any other race I have done” said Ross “I have to put my faith in the student’s car preparation skills which is pretty significant when you are driving a car flat out around a track like Bathurst. Having said that I have complete respect for what they are trying to do and hope that I can pass on some of my experience and knowledge to them. I might have been doing this for a long time but I remember that I had to start somewhere too and this is a fantastic opportunity for them to gain what will be very valuable experience. Hyundai have shown full commitment to the project as well which I think is just fantastic. I‘m really looking forward to it!”

Sharing the driving with Ross will be 2006 Victorian 2 Litre Sports Sedan Series Winner Jamie Augustine, Greg Sticker and Brett Youlden.
